The diploma in Modern Dance (DMD) Program is a dynamic program developed
for those who wish to study dance professionally or as a career option.
It is aimed at the holistic development of dancers, exposing them to different dance forms, performance experiences, stage skills, presentation, and professional approaches to performing arts.

The DMD program spans over two years
Year 1 covers - Elementary & Intermediate Studies. 1 Year Diploma
Year 2 covers - Advanced & Professional Studies 2 Year Diploma with Graduation Award

Each Year is represented with 2 semesters that cover training in primary and secondary intensive subjects.

These subjects are the ones that define dance education for all DMD students. Students will be trained in these subjects throughout their program. They will be appearing for examinations in each of the primary intensive subjects at the end of the year with a Graduation Ceremony to commemorate the program.

These subjects are the ones that form a part of the curriculum of students but are not included in the examination. The purpose of having these subjects in the curriculum is to supplement physical training of students in aspects like strength, flexibility, stamina, musicality, understanding of cultural dances as well as to promote freedom and expression in dancing through a playful and fun atmosphere.
SNDA has had the privilege of hosting several guest faculties from around the world for students to get exposure to different styles of dancing and methods of learning. Having guest workshops not only helps students learn a new subject and enhance their skills but also broadens their perspective about world dance. SNDA has hosted workshops by:

Note: Regular schedule for all DMD students is altered during workshop season, depending on the duration and timings of the workshop.
YEAR 1: Elementary & Intermediate: In this level, the training is rigorous in all subjects and based on their technical foundation, students are introduced to newer movement vocabulary, making them learn the application of the technique in dance in depth.

YEAR 2: Advanced & Professional: At this level, training in all subjects intensifies and the pace also increases. Students learn intricately complex movements and their sense of spatial awareness, performance, dance quality and dynamics of understanding choreography also develops. In this level, Choreography & Dance in Education as a subject is emphasized. Students are challenged to choreograph their routines and showcase them at the end of the semester in a theater in Mumbai and are also encouraged to teach younger students as a part of their curriculum

Students applying must attach a YouTube / Vimeo link of their dance performance and may perform any movement vocabulary of their choice but must be minimum 2 minutes and maximum 3 minutes. Upon selection, you will be called at SNDA head office, for a second round of audition followed by an interview with the DMD managing faculty.
Applicants are notified about their selection in the program within a week after their auditions & Interviews. Upon notification, students can enroll in the program in the same academic year. SNDA will take enrollment for the DMD program till the last week of December and later if spots are available. Once you have been selected for the DMD program, you will confirm your participation by filling up the DMD admission form and paying the entire program fees. The course fees must be paid 10 days before the course commencement which would be in the 1st week of January.
Students must compulsorily be in a Dance Uniform which involves Leotards, Butt shorts, tights & t-shirts. Whereas the students would also need to procure ballet shoes, jazz shoes, jazz sneakers, dance socks and any other dance essentials that may be required during the program at their own expense.
SNDA hosts dance examinations every year for DMD students. Exams are a great way to assess whether the learning you have experienced has reflected in you. SNDA Dance Exams are non-competitive and serve as an analysis to a dance artists’ growth. It also is a good method for students to gauge their growth and make future plans. The Dance Exams are practical examinations where students present four variations i.e., Technique, Travelling Movements, Center Combination & Choreography in each core dance subjects of SNDA namely Modern Contemporary, Modern Jazz, Modern Ballet & Hip-Hop. The Exams are conducted 1 week before their Graduation Day Performance every year.
Preparation begins in class. The exams have no surprises; they all include what students have already learnt in class or are going to learn before the same. The Class teachers will teach the syllabus and explain the essential elements of the exam. Students will be taught the guidelines as well as the system of the exams well in advance.
The SNDA Examination Certificate is autonomous although the organization’s reputation precedes its validation. Some of SNDA’s certified students are travelling the world as dancers, running dance organizations, or working in large dance venues in not just India but around the world. Our Alumni list boasts of professionals like the same.
The Graduation Day marks the most important day for the students at SNDA. Students put in a year full of hard work and prepare themselves to perform in Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Ballet & also present their self-created choreographies in a large theatre packed with more than 450 members in the audience. The students, one week before are examined by an Internationally renowned dance adjudicator and are awarded their graduation certificates, results and medals by dance legends and luminaries on their Graduation Day in front of their loved ones on stage. Students are not marked by the level of difficulty they perform but by how well they are performing based on their previous exams or based on the level they are appearing for. The criteria usually are Technique, Spacing, Expressions, Strength & Flexibility, Ease of Movement & Rhythm sensibility.
Students do not choose the exams they have to give but the SNDA faculty nominates students to appear for a particular exam. The student after being nominated can decide whether or not he/she wants to give the exam.

Fees for Diploma in Modern Dance for 1 year - INR 1,80,000 For the year 2022 Starting the 10th of January

Methods of payment for the Year 2022 Pay the complete amount on or before 3rd January 2022 INR 1,80,000 + 18% GST = INR 2,12,400/- Or Pay in 10 Installments by submitting 10 Post-Dated cheques on the 3rd of Jan 2022 that are dated the 3rd of every month starting 3rd Jan 2022 to 3rd Oct 2022 Each installment would be of INR 20,000/- + 18% GST = INR 23,600

The PDC for Juniors program is devised for children who find an inclination towards dance arts at a young age. Spanning over 3 years, the program caters to children between the age group of 7 -12 years and builds a strong foundation in dance enabling children go through later intensive stages of training in dance as they grow up. The program helps develop discipline, alertness, focus, presentation skills and professionalism in a way that combines fun and earnestness for performing arts at the same time.

The PDC for Juniors program covers training in the following subjects
  1. Modern Contemporary
  2. Modern Ballet
  3. Jazz & Funk
  4. Hip-Hop
These subjects are the core dance subjects for all PDC Juniors. Students will be trained in these subjects throughout their program. They will be appearing for examinations in each of the primary intensive subjects.
PDC Students undergo regular training in the following subjects to enhance their dance skills. Students do not appear for exams in these subjects.

  5. Kalaripayattu
  6. Aerial Silk Arts
  7. Mallakhamb
  8. Gymnastics & Parkour
These subjects are the core dance subjects for all PDC Juniors. Students will be trained in these subjects throughout their program. They will be appearing for examinations in each of the primary intensive subjects.
The PDC program will cover a minimum 20 hours of workshop subjects by guest faculties around the world. In the past, SNDA has had the privilege of hosting several guest faculties from around the world for students to get exposure in different styles of dancing and methods of learning.

Year 1: Beginner’s/Intermediate- This is a foundational level where the students go through basics of every Intensive Subject, ensuring they have a grip on their techniques before advancing to the next level.

Year 2: Pro-Intermediate- In this level, the training becomes rigorous in all subjects and based on their technical foundation, students are introduced to newer movement vocabulary, making them learn application of technique in dance in depth.

Year 3: Inter-Advance – In this level, students start training in a way teen or adult professionals do and are introduced to vocabularies and techniques that prepare them for the professional world of dance either on stage or film.

Once the students complete the PDC Program they are eligible for being a part of Diploma in Modern Dance without giving any auditions for the same. The Diploma in Modern Dance is currently for 2 years and prepares students for the professional world of dance.
